October 16 Community Update

 Dear Neighbors,

A lot has been happening in the month of October! Here are some of the highlights:

Tuckpointing. The building was in rough shape so this work has been ongoing since the project began. Attention to detail is the name of the game here! Here are several photos to give you an sense of what this works entails:

Tuckpointing above the main entrance

Mechanical System. Airflow is important in an old building like this and even more important in a performing space. People need to breathe and so do buildings! Check out the additional work done here:

Here are what the vents look like that will be flush with the floor

Owner, Architect & Contractor Meetings. It’s one thing to have designs on paper and a completely other thing to build it! Every week we meet as a team to resolve the inevitable challenges that arise between the two. Our team of experts are incredibly adept at problem solving. Here’s the crew discussing electrical needs that need to go underneath the flooring.

Backstage. Here is the flooring deck or what goes in place before we install the actual flooring. If you recall, there is a basement below this floor. In many ways, construction is similar to making a layered cake!

Pouring the floor. All of the mechanical and ventilation systems you see here are going to be covered in concrete. Talk about a lot of concrete!

As always, thank you for your continued patience as this project continues to take up a traffic lane in front of the building.

Next time you hear from us…the floor will be complete so we can continue our work upward! This will include insulation, sheetrock, drywall and hopefully some significant progress on the entrance!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns throughout the project, please contact our Community Engagement Manager, Mercedes Yarbro, at mercedes@victoriatheater.org.
