Construction Update 8/11/202

 Dear Neighbors,

Here’s the status of the VTAC construction project as of August 11, 2023:

What’s been happening?

Exterior Courtyard Work. There is an outdoor space that’s about 5 feet wide in between VTAC and the building where Demera Ethiopian Restaurant is. It’s going to be a courtyard that VTAC staff and visitors can enjoy in the future. Over the past month Flannery’s construction crews did work to make the ground in the space leveled to prepare it for new concrete.

Design. After doing some of the demolition work at the site, Flannery and VJAA have discovered some things that they couldn’t see before, so they had to tweak certain parts of the plan. Flannery and VJAA are collaborating to work through challenges and keep making progress.

Wall Footings. Flannery has also started to build the base for the walls that will separate the flex space from the theater in the future.

What’s coming up?

Plumbing and HVAC. In August and September construction crews will continue to install the plumbing pipes and heating and air conditioning vents that will allow air and water to flow into and out of the building. This is called the “rough-in” process because it's only the first step in getting utilities (like electricity and water) flowing into the building.

Concrete. In upcoming weeks Flannery will also pour the concrete needed for flooring in the basement and in the courtyard.

More Tuckpointing. In the next few weeks, construction crews will continue the tuckpointing work on the interior and exterior walls of the building.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns throughout the project, please contact our Community Engagement Manager, Mercedes Yarbro, at mercedes@victoriatheater.org.

That’s all for now, folks! We’ll reach out in a few weeks for another round of ‘what’s been happening’ and what’s coming up’. Stay tuned!
